Why 3 Capsules (And What to Do If You’re Struggling)

Three capsules can feel like a lot. Between busy schedules, morning sickness and simply forgetting, we get it.

“Why three capsules?” A common question we hear. And it’s a fair one.

We shouldn't have to compromise on our nutrition just because we can’t swallow 3 capsules down. Mother Dose was made with this in mind, because some days, it’s just not happening.

It comes down to one thing: dose matters

Most prenatals are designed to fit into one capsule, or two at most. But here’s the trade-off: when you limit capsule size, you often limit dose.

Mother Dose was formulated differently.

Instead of squeezing everything into the one capsule and compromising on impact, we prioritised an evidence-based, comprehensive formulation, focusing on effective, impactful doses of choline, folate and iodine.

Intentional and uncompromised.

Because during preconception, pregnancy and postpartum, your nutrient demands aren’t minimal, they’re significant.

Three capsules simply gives us the space to deliver what actually matters.

Why not just one capsule? The science behind it.

One capsule wouldn’t allow us to deliver what your body actually needs.

During pregnancy, your requirement for key nutrients increases significantly. In many cases, diet alone isn’t enough to meet these demands.

A prenatal needs to deliver precise, meaningful doses of nutrients. And this is where most single-capsule prenatals fall short.

Choline, iodines, B vitamins and vitamin C require substantial amounts to reach levels shown to support pregnancy outcomes.

  • Choline needs are around 440-550 mg per day, yet most prenatals underdose or exclude it completely.
  • Iodine requirements increase to support thyroid function and fetal brain development
  • B vitamins (like B6 and folate) are needed at higher levels to maintain normal maternal status and reduce the risk of neural tube defects.

These are physiologically significant doses. You cannot simply fit these amounts into a single capsule without compromising something.

So most brands make a trade-off: reducing doses, removing key nutrients or prioritising convenience over effectiveness.

Mother Dose has intentionally been formulated across three capsules. Allowing us to:

  • Deliver clinically relevant doses
  • Include nutrients left out (like meaningful choline)
  • Maintain bioavailable, well-tolerated forms

Not to make it harder, but to make it work.

Designed for flexibility

Mother Dose is designed with two intake options:

Swallow on whole on good days, or open and mix into food or drinks when nausea strikes.

If taking 3 capsules in one go feels like a lot, you’ve got options.

Split them across the day

Taking one in the morning, one at midday and one at night – whatever works for your body. There is no perfect timing. Just consistency.

Open them up

Break the capsules open and mix them into: smoothies, yoghurt, juice, water, electrolytes. Mother Dose has a gingery Kakadu Plum flavour.

The formula was intentionally designed for this, you’re not losing effectiveness, just making it easier to take.

Make it a morning ritual

Pair your capsules with something you already do every day. It becomes less of a task, more a habit stack.

  • Morning coffee or matcha
  • Sitting in the sun for 5 minutes
  • Sit them in your bathroom: after you brush your teeth/AM skincare – Mother Dose is there ready.
  • Keep beside your bedside, your daily dose is waiting for you when you wake up and again when you wind down for the night.

Anchor to meals
Instead of remembering supplements, attach them to food.

Designed for real life, not perfect routines.

Pregnancy isn’t always neat or predictable.

Some days capsules are easy, other days, they’re just not happening.

Mother Dose was built with flexibility in mind. Ensuring you can still get all the nutrients you need, even on hard days.

Because ultimately, it’s not about how you take it. It’s about making sure your body is supported in a season that asks so much of it
